The tears come flowing down, carrying with them all the thanks and regrets.

He couldn’t tell her about the other world, though. Marimo speaks, and says she wants to hear about what happened, and why he cried, someday.

Breakfast at the Shirogane household. The news talks about a murder last night in the city.

Yuuko is acting calmly in the face of Marimo's death. She brought her here because she was talented, she said. But inside her heart...

Yuuko's words bring fear to Takeru. Weren't you supposed to be safe if you didn’t die in the other world?

Breakfast at the Shirogane household. The news talks about a murder last night in the city.

Marimo is alive. Of course she is. There are no BETA here. He can feel the warmth in her hand that proves she's real.

Takeru fled the classroom and headed for the roof. Takeru is terrified that someone else might die because of him.

The next morning, school begins with a speech from the principal.

When Takeru asks if Marimo's death meant nothing at all to her, Yuuko simply tells him that she doesn't need him anymore.

Yuuko talks to Meiya as well, and gives her some advice. She tells her to stay away from Takeru.

Only his own mind, and the memories of the people in the other world, will keep him attached to reality. If they waver, Takeru may cease to be.

Jinjuuji is caught off guard by the way her student cries every time he sees her, but accepts him nonetheless. What happened to him?

Today they leave for school early. Chizuru is surprised that the trio, who are always late thanks to Takeru, have arrived on time today.

Takeru's confused testimony matches with the evidence on the battlefield. Sgt. Jinguuji's KIA is confirmed.

Why doesn't she resist? She will offer himself to him, she says, if it will help him heal. But this only makes him feel even worse.

Yuuko stops Takeru before he can hurt the young girl. “If you wanted to go home, you should've come to me first.”

“Send me home”, Takeru demands. Kasumi trembles in fear at him.

Marimo is alive. Of course she is. There are no BETA here. He can feel the warmth in her hand that proves she's real.

Yuuko asks if anybody but Marimo died in the other world. Without the causality information of their deaths, nothing will happen to people here.

Takeru's arrival caused the Marimo in this world to die. Was this his punishment for running?

A light stretches between worlds. A broken boy vanishes from this world. Feelings from the heart become words that will never be haerd.

The exercise is set to take place in (what’s left of) Negishi Forest Park. The Type-87 Maintenance Trailers containers are jacked-up one after another.

The Surface Pilots participating as Red Team are all veterans with over 20 combat sorties.

As Chizuru goes to contact command, a BETA warning appears on everyone's retinal displays.

Sgt. Jinguuji says they have been temporarily designated as Flight A207 to allow for a comparative practical evaluation of the proof-of-concept OS in their TSFs against the XM3.

Morning on the day of the exercises. Today's wake-up is especially fluffy.

Takeru is suspicious that an explosion occurred in a non-live-fire exercise. He's not certain if he should continue the exercise at all.

As Takeru and Meiya stand there helpless, the Red Team Shark unit arrives.

The BETA in the exercise area have been defeated. The corpses of the humans and the BETA are both rotting in the fields.

He looks around at the darkness, straining to see anything at all. He wets himself with fear.

Takeru sits in front of his destroyed Fubuki, unmoving. He was saved from certain death.

Takeru gets annoyed at himself, too. He's been forced to use hypnotic suggestions and drugs, and treated like an errand boy. He's better than this, he says.

Takeru’s Fubuki flies through the ruins of a residential area, and receives the first shows of the match from Red Team.

Ayamine and Mikoto are concerned about Takeru's safety. Takeru tells the rest of the team not to worry as he follows the Veteran.

The veteran surface pilot asks Takeru to come with them. Something seems off.

207 hurries to the hangar, using NOE flight to avoid the Laser Class. But they're blocked by the BETA.

Kasumi collapses to the floor after overstressing herself “observing” Takeru.

Takeru hands the formula to Yuuko and completes the mission.

Takeru thanks Meiya, like the others did. Meiya thanks him too.

Takeru smiles to see that Sumika is just like he remembered her.

Takeru only made it this far because Marimo helped him in the last world. He can’t tell her that, but he wants to share his gratitude nonetheless.

Yuuko tells both Takeru and Kasumi to get some rest.

“The world wants young people with strength and courage. In battle, you need experience if you're going to win.”

Commander Radhabinod begins his speech. “As of today, you’ve completed your training and become full surface pilots.”

The team is happy to have Mikoto back. The bonds between the team after their days of difficult training are strong.

A muffled voice comes in via an encrypted line, echoing deep within their heads. This is the activation trigger for a post-hypnotic suggestion given to all surface pilots.

He's told that there’s no time to argue, and that he has to go before the Laser Class arrive, but still he insists. The rest of his platoon intervenes to persuade him.

Takeru hears the voice of his teacher behind him as he sits there, unmoving. She asks him if he's calmed down. His answer is not kind.

They leave, knowing that all they can do to help him is act normal around him. “Instructor” Jinguuji has something she wants to say to him.

The morning's exercises end with Takeru's unit getting an A evaluation while the other team gets a B. Takeru silently rejoices that everything is proceeding according to Yuuko’s plan.

Takeru is excited to try the new OS against veteran Surface Pilots. The OS has a new navigator voice.

Instead she would use her experience to help keep as many surface pilots alive as possible. That was the reason she was allowed to survive, and what she must d.

Participating in the exercise will be Takeru's A207 Platoon and 1 platoon from every TSF unit at Yokohama base.

The Surface Pilots participating as Red Team are all veterans with over 20 combat sorties.

The veterans know from experience that it won't be that easy. In fact, the supply units have been badly delayed.

The afternoon exercises begin. The formation for the afternoon exercises changes, and Chizuru and Meiya join up with Takeru.

The veterans surround Takeru when he tells them he's the one behind the new OS.

After so many loops, Takeru has a deep hatred of the BETA. The hypnotic suggestion and stimulants bring out the worst of that aspect of him.

207 is told to fall back to hangar 37 and bring ammo.

Takeru is over-excited because the stimulant was too strong. “Shirogane Takeru the hero is back!”

Takeru asks them where the other members of the team are. Meiya and Ayamine have finished their breakfast, and Mikoto was taken away after the coup and has yet to return.

Even after working so hard she collapsed the previous day, Kasumi still comes to wake up Takeru. She's a little late, though.

Takeru says his thank you, as well. “I will always be proud that you were the one who trained me,” Takeru says. Marimo says that Takeru was always destined for greatness.

Chizuru had been down ever since the coup attempt the other day. Tamase and Ms. Kyouzuka call out to Takeru.

The drugs have caused Takeru to lose his fear of the BETA. He says ammo is coming soon and doesn’t want to fall back.

When you’re sure death is near, you should do all you can to avoid a death that will bring you shame, and if there’s anything you can do by staying alive, you should see it through to the end.

The veteran Surface Pilot dodges Takeru’s surprise attack, and counterattacks. Takeru is faster, though, and lands a finishing blow.

Takeru asks them where the other members of the team are. Meiya and Ayamine have finished their breakfast, and Mikoto was taken away after the coup and has yet to return.

Like the rest of the platoon, he has Paul Radhabinod place the badge on his chest. Takeru feels the weight of the silver wings.

Yuuko tells Takeru that it puts incredible mental stress on Kasumi to move him across worlds. Kasumi is ready to “observe” Takeru.

In the end, instead of saying anything, Tamase leaps into her instructor’s arms. Marimo gently holds her.

For their final order, Instructor Jinguuji disbands the team. Jinguuji smiles gently as her students leave the nest.

Takeru renews his vows to come back to Sumika, as his trip comes to an end.

Takeru says he’d never thought that he’d lose what he cared about, or see it change. He asks Sumika if she can imagine life without him.

Meiya salutes, with a new surface pilot’s badge shining on her chest.

Now that Takeru has recovered the formula needed for the 00 Unit, Yuuko calls him “this world’s savior.”

Yuuko tells Takeru that he can only stay in his old world for somewhere between 15 and 18 hours.
