After the training unit is disbanded, Takeru is told by Yuuko that he’ll be assigned to Special Unit A-01, serving directly under Yokohama Base Command.

The Gekishin escapes Takeru's attack, but now Ayamine stands in its way. Takeru gives the orders for a plan to work together and lure the enemy into a kill zone.

The veterans tell Takeru he's obligated to answer the questions of a superior officer. Takeru has no choice but to tell the veterans that yes, he is the one behind the new OS.

The veterans ask Takeru if he's really the one behind the new OS. Takeru tells the veterans that exchanging information during the exercises is forbidden. The veterans laugh at him.

Takeru is brought to the verge of tears. Everything he's done has been recognized. His comrades, who were watching from the shadows, share their joy.

Command orders the TSFs to stay on standby until ammo arrives. Shark's leader gives the same order to 207. Chizuru recovers enough to give orders to 207.

The phrase Code991 flashes. An alert sounds. This area should be free of BETA, but they're coming out of the ground in droves.

In the blackness, he can hear the sound of his own heart beating. The sound of explosions and vibrations breaks the silence. Is that the sound of the BETA tearing apart his machine?

Takeru gets annoyed at himself, too. He's been forced to use hypnotic suggestions and drugs, and treated like an errand boy. He's better than this, he says.

Marimo tells him it’s okay to be a coward. That if you know fear, you become sensitive to death, and hard to kill.

The veteran doesn't miss how Takeru is moving. He quickly dodges the attack from the side and shakes off the pursuing attack.

Suddenly, an explosion rocks the other side of the exercise area. Everyone comes to a stop.

Takeru says that the enemy's such a good pilot it doesn’t feel like fighting a Gekishin. In answer to Mikoto's message, Takeru says he’ll handle this enemy.

Suddenly, an explosion rocks the other side of the exercise area. Everyone comes to a stop.

The sounds continue as the control seat becomes a coffin. Alternative IV and the new OS are just getting started. He hasn't even found Sumika yet.

Takeru misinterprets things and thinks his team isn't considered strong enough to fight. He's told, however, that because 207 is the most mobile unit they're being given the critical mission of getting the ammo.

The veterans know from experience that it won't be that easy. In fact, the supply units have been badly delayed.

The Fubukis race across the practice ground. Takeru is even more excited. Now he may be able to save the world.

The drugs have caused Takeru to lose his fear of the BETA. He says ammo is coming soon and doesn’t want to fall back.

He looks around at the darkness, straining to see anything at all. He wets himself with fear.

As Takeru and Meiya stand there helpless, the Red Team Shark unit arrives.

Takeru just barely manages to dodge the accurate fire from the veteran Surface Pilot, and hides behind a building.

The afternoon exercises begin. The formation for the afternoon exercises changes, and Chizuru and Meiya join up with Takeru.

The veterans surround Takeru when he tells them he's the one behind the new OS.

207 is told to fall back to hangar 37 and bring ammo.

Takeru keeps fighting without bullets. He's drawn away a huge number of BETA, but his TSF takes a critical hit.

The afternoon exercises begin. The formation for the afternoon exercises changes, and Chizuru and Meiya join up with Takeru.

The veterans surround Takeru when he tells them he's the one behind the new OS.

As Chizuru goes to contact command, a BETA warning appears on everyone's retinal displays.

Takeru smirks and says it was harder than he thought, and that he wanted an even bigger win. Mikoto tells Takeru he's amazing.

The stimulants are having a negative effect, and Takeru can only interpret anything he's told negatively. He gets mad, thinking that he's stronger than the other surface pilots.

The rest of 207 watches him from a distance. All they can do is let him be alone.

The F-15s are helpless against the BETA without real bullets. Takeru begins to shiver in fear as the TSFs are destroyed one after another.

The Gekishins try their best to fight back against the BETA horde, but their paint rounds are useless.

Ayamine skillfully dodges attacks as she lures the enemy to where she wants them. A smile forms as the enemy heads right into the trap.

Three more veterans are waiting for Takeru. The veterans tell Takeru he's so wimpy they don’t think he could be a pilot.

He's told that there’s no time to argue, and that he has to go before the Laser Class arrive, but still he insists. The rest of his platoon intervenes to persuade him.

After so many loops, Takeru has a deep hatred of the BETA. The hypnotic suggestion and stimulants bring out the worst of that aspect of him.

The unit feels like the new OS might turn the tide of the war. One of the veteran pilots comes to see them.

Takeru smirks and says it was harder than he thought, and that he wanted an even bigger win. Mikoto tells Takeru he's amazing.

They have to get the ammo to Shark Unit as fast as possible. They split up to avoid the BETA. All of them except Takeru.

After all the praise he got from the veterans, he had to use drugs to fight, and then the overdose caused him to shoot paintballs at BETA. He continues to judge himself.

The command room begins the exercise. Yuuko's mode in the command room is serious, even as the new surface pilots are jovial.

Takeru hears the voice of his teacher behind him as he sits there, unmoving. She asks him if he's calmed down. His answer is not kind.

Three more veterans are waiting for Takeru. The veterans tell Takeru he's so wimpy they don’t think he could be a pilot.

The veteran surface pilot leads Takeru to a dark corner of the hangar.

Takeru’s Fubuki flies through the ruins of a residential area, and receives the first shows of the match from Red Team.

Takeru is excited to try the new OS against veteran Surface Pilots. The OS has a new navigator voice.

Takeru is surprised at how easily the veteran's praise comes. The veterans tell him that new pilot or not, they welcome anybody who can fight. They tell him he may have saved humanity.

Marimo says gently that she wants him to survive for decades and save many people, and in the end, show his strength as a human.

The team is happy to have Mikoto back. The bonds between the team after their days of difficult training are strong.

Suddenly, the lights at the top of the hall go on, and the door opens. The other participants in the meeting have arrived.

Tamase runs towards her instructor. Tamase looks like a cat as she runs.

“But there’s something else that’s just as important. A heart that believes. Right now, for the first time in history all humanity is bound together.

“Think of your neighbors, and those around you. Whether they’re still alive tomorrow is up to you.”

He didn't want to die. But there was nothing he could do. He calls himself a coward who can do nothing but cry and piss himself.

Takeru is ashamed of himself and the way he acted.

The morning's exercises end with Takeru's unit getting an A evaluation while the other team gets a B. Takeru silently rejoices that everything is proceeding according to Yuuko’s plan.

Takeru is excited to try the new OS against veteran Surface Pilots. The OS has a new navigator voice.

Meiya draws the one coming after them away, while Takeru watches for the unseen TSF. Chizuru faces off against the last TSF while moving into a position where she can aid the others.
