For those who have nothing to do, getting some rest before the mission is part of the job.

They can't afford to be complacent in a difficult situation. They'll have to do more than what they were trained to do, especially Takeru, who is expected to do his best to live up to his reputation as a genius TSF pilot.

Chizuru and Ayamine survive the laser. Their armor is damaged, but they can still continue the fight.

Haruko lies and says she was unable to contact her due to the communications restrictions. She's unphased even after being told that low-power communications were allowed.

It is a blessing just to be given a place to die in this way. For someone who has had many subordinates die and has been involved in the deaths of many people, that is enough.

If Takeru had not conjured up the vision with Meiya, and if Captain Isumi and the others had not died, there might perhaps have been a future in which Takeru died instead.
