Sumika had become something other than a person. No matter what harsh fate awaits her, it is better than being kept alive as a brainstem.

Sumika continues to flail about in Takeru's arms. Perhaps her mind is flooded with memories of when she was captured by the BETA...

August 5th, 1999. Operation Lucifer. In the depths of Yokohama Hive, the only person to be captured by the BETA and survive is found.

Christmas is the day Santa gives presents. But Santa doesn't exist. Instead, the young Takeru decided to give Sumika a present every year.

Christmas is coming soon. Sumika doesn't seem to be responding to his promise to give her a present, which he made to her when she was a child.

"Carry out your mission at all costs! Fight to your very last breath! Make your death count!"

207B rejoices in Takeru's safe return.

"Glad you understand!" Takeru gets a hard slap on the back.

Finally, Captain Isumi gets ready to tell Takeru about the unit's motto. Takeru braces himself.

Tears are trickling down the corners of Takeru's eyes. Is it from joy at being reunited with Sumika, or is there something else?

Yuuko says that Takeru has passed his "interview". Takeru has won his place.
